All aboard the pastel train! Choo choo! As with anything overtly and stereotypically feminine, I was wary of the return of pastels. While I did dabble in it quite a bit as a child (a certain glorious high-sheen lilac Guess? mini skirt from 8th grade comes to mind), and then again in college (preppy requisite), the pastels have been lying dormant for a good majority of the last decade. But then Louis Vuitton happened. And Rochas. And Nina Ricci. And everyone else under the sun. I was nonplussed at first; I didn't know how to take it in. But then, with the recent Pre-Fall and Fall shows I realized: pastel is the perfect compliment for my latest obsession--fake [looking] patent leather. My love, J.W. Anderson, did it. DVF. Wang. Lanvin. Acne. I'm sure the list will grow. Even if it doesn't, I don't care. For some reason the slick lightness of the material is enough to get me going no matter who is doing it. And thanks to this wondrous highly-synthetic material that many may think resembles a Hefty garbage bag, I have been able to re-embrace the most saccharine and delicate of pastels! Gimme more!
