Fake Plastic Skirts

Ralph Lauren sweater and floral oxford, Prada plastic skirt, Bally shoes, J. Crew headband

All aboard the pastel train! Choo choo!  As with anything overtly and stereotypically feminine, I was wary of the return of pastels.  While I did dabble in it quite a bit as a child (a certain glorious high-sheen lilac Guess? mini skirt from 8th grade comes to mind), and then again in college (preppy requisite), the pastels have been lying dormant for a good majority of the last decade.  But then Louis Vuitton happened.  And Rochas.  And Nina Ricci. And everyone else under the sun. I was nonplussed at first; I didn't know how to take it in.  But then, with the recent Pre-Fall and Fall shows I realized:  pastel is the perfect compliment for my latest obsession--fake [looking] patent leather.  My love, J.W. Anderson, did it.  DVF. WangLanvin. Acne.  I'm sure the list will grow.  Even if it doesn't, I don't care.  For some reason the slick lightness of the material is enough to get me going no matter who is doing it.  And thanks to this wondrous highly-synthetic material that many may think resembles a Hefty garbage bag, I have been able to re-embrace the most saccharine and delicate of pastels!  Gimme more!

Garance

Prada hat, Rochas coat and skirt, Joe Fresh blouse, Comme des Garcons shoes, Rag and Bone backpack, Celine sunglasses

Some of you Garance Dore readers (I'm guessing everyone) may have seen these pics, but--besides taking as good a picture of me as I think is possible--what I really love about this post and what I'm most honored by is Garance's accompanying commentary about individual style.  I love that she completely "gets" what my style is about--expressing my quirks, predilections and peccadilloes through pieces I love.  It's totally not about following a certain trend, or a rigid archetype, although of course, influences abound.  But when it comes down to it, fashion should definitely be a "why not?" And glad I can be a manifestation of that sentiment in someone's eyes!
