Memorial Day Jetworthy Challenge

Marie France Van Damme dress, Speedo (yes that Speedo) shoes, Alexis Bittar earrings, Mawi bracelet (via Jetworthy)
H & M top, Proenza Schouler skirt and shoes, Mawi necklace (via Jetworthy)

Lucky for you, no cleavage to make NSFW

Being of the competitive sort, I'm always up for a challenge--whether that includes brains, endurance, or copious amounts of beer.  So, when the jewelry site Jetworthy challenged me to style pieces from their site since they knew I'm someone who is usually a bit averse to accessorizing.  And you know what? I dug their sell and took them up on it! Basically, the site is like Netlflix for jewelry (pre-streaming).  Great designers like Mawi (one of my faves), Lulu Frost, and Ben Amun are on there (although I do wish you could search by designer, for now it's only by category), and all you have to do is set up an account, fill up your queue, and pieces get sent to you overnight, which you can then return for you next fix via prepaid packaging.  I had a ton of fun perusing the site and ended up filling up my queue without even trying.  First up were the pieces above, which I thought fit seamlessly into my usual minimal accessorizing (especially in what turned out to be record-breaking Chicago heat).  Not being one to shill unnecessarily or easily, I have to say the entire Jetworthy experience was impressive.  If you're someone like me who can't quite commit to buying expensive (i.e. more than Claire's level) jewelry, this was a great way to try out pieces and add something special to outfits.  I imagine if you LOVE jewelry, this will be just as enticing in an entirely different, more sordid way. And for those ladies in between who just need something cool for a special event, it's a no-brainer.  Ok, that's it.  I swear they didn't pay me for this.  I just really love the site!

Happy Long Weekend!

Zimmermann dress, American Apparel bike shorts, Marni shoes

I feel like it's been a while since we all had a relaxing break, right?  Here's to hoping the weather allows us to wear short short dresses like the one above! We DESERVE it!  Have a great one! xx

Freshen Up

Joe Fresh knit top and jeans, Rochas Wedges, Derek Lam bag
 Sorry for the butt shot--unavoidable

Some exciting news is coming up for this Working Girl, but I'm gonna be suuuuuuuper annoying and keep it to myself for just a bit longer.  But, it's coming! In the mean time, I'd just like to espouse my extreme enthusiasm for Joe Fresh once again.  Like, seriously-- does JF just kill it or what?  The prices are pretty much unbeatable, and I completely love the 70s-90s-2010s feel to the clothes.  Just seems to make sense to me.  I also love that they don't TOO obviously knock-off runway (with the exception of some notable Celine-clones, one of which I may or may not own). Also--I am obsessed with ribbed knit tops.  WHY?  I've spent the better part of my life avoiding them, mostly because they tend to bunch in all the wrong places.  But, all of a sudden I've become inexplicably drawn to them like a moth to a very clingy flame. What is a girl who likes to eat lunch to do? Time to go t-shirt bra shopping!

Met Gala 2012

Valentino top and skirt, Tabitha Simmons shoes, Jessica Kagan Cushman Earrings, Blu Bijoux Cuff
Schiaparelli and Prada lips!

Pockets!
As some of you fashion fiends may know, the Met Gala took place this Monday, and all us lovely girls that work at the magazine were cordially invited...to work the event.  But seriously, it was some Grade-A people watching.  And--without any shades of sarcasm whatsoever--it has been a dream of mine to attend in any capacity.  This year's exhibit honors Muccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli; and, in honor of Ms. Schiaparelli we were all required to wear pink.  I, of course, wanted the pinkest pink I could find, so I ended up with this Pepto Spring 2012 Valentino which I absolutely adored.  The cotton lace workmanship was divine; I didn't have to wear spanx; and ,there were pockets!  Unfortunately, because it was a work event and I couldn't just stand around like a narcissistic creep, I wasn't exactly able to tote around the old Nikon.  Instead,  a few blurry Iphone photos will have to suffice (yes, i refuse to Instagram--sue me!).  Also in the interest of not looking like a creep, I mostly just stared at the ridiculously famous people, so no "behind the scenes" pics there. BUT, I was super psyched when Veronica Mars herself (aka Kristen Bell) ran up to me of her own accord to compliment my outfit!  I was like "uhhh...duh...you tooooo!!!!!!!!". Gobble gobble gobble.  I also got McNulty from The Wire to call me weird because I find creepy serial killer charming (I'm sensing a theme with the creepy here...).  So, all in all, a successful night!

Delirious from standing, trying and failing at a red carpet "look back"
"Waaaaaaah, time to go home!"

Fall Forward?

Joie sweater, Marc Jacobs Skirt, Cece Toppings dickie, Coach shoes
As luck would have it, as soon as I start waxing optimistic about the bounty of spring....the weather decides to hover around 55 degrees.  Nevertheless, I'm not going to let my longtime foe (the Gulf Stream, yes it's true) undermine my new found positivity (mostly because it only has a shelf life of about 2.5 weeks)!  So instead of crabbing about having to wear Fall pieces, I'm going to time travel and predict what I will be wearing next fall.  I have exactly been shy about my love of shiny leather for Fall 2012, so that's an obvious pick.  And, yes, a sweater is not terribly groundbreaking (although hunter green is where it's at peeps!), but I am loving this long shirt/sweater, pencil skirt silhouette that's been going around.  Tibi had some of it, so did Derek Lam, and Givenchy too (albeit in 2011.  It just comes across as perfectly cozy, but still appropriate for work/night/24-7 with its slightly librarian/academic feel.  And, I think it looks great with flats or low heels, i.e. it's COMFORTABLE.  So, yeah, take that "Spring".
