Sneaker Pimp

Banana Republic x Milly men's shirt, Dries Van Noten pants, Nike Air Max sneakers, Karen Walker sunglasses, Maison Scotch necklace

Whether you're a fan of street style or not, I think we can all agree to thank it for making comfy athletic shoes an acceptable part of a fashionable person's outfit and not just the footwear of the weary commuter.  As someone who was heretofore strictly a converse and grey New Balance type of girl (mostly for lack of desire to spend the $$), the trend could not be more serendipitous: at the exact moment I found my joints seriously aching from pounding the hard New York City pavement (thus necessitating the inclusion of shoes with some kind of shock absorbing power into my wardrobe), sneakers became a thing! And there were so many cute ones to choose from! When did that happen?  Felt like Rip Van Winkle awakening to a whole new world.  So, yeah, I'm totally on the sneaker train. And with the boxier, sporty silhouettes that have become ubiquitous across all brands, the sneaker as fashion shoe actually feels right and not too forced.  This is a trend I'm hoping has some legs!

P.S.- Check me out on Refinery29's "Month of Style Stars"
